TheBudgetOverlander is an inside look at my adventure into Overlanding in Southern California as well as my new part time job as a Land Rover mechanic

My adventure started in February of 2022 when I started looking into the world of overlanding after diving into a TrailRecon rabbit hole on YouTube. After learning how accessible incredible trails were to me in California, I set forth on finding the perfect vehicle to fit my needs and budget. At this time, a document was created on my desktop titled “Project Overland”.

The main goal for me was to have a place to call home while traveling a few days to either fly fish or explore many of the natural wonders in and around Southern California. After finally settling on a 2006 Land Rover LR3 in April of 2023 and hitting my first trail the following weekend, I was hooked!

As an engineer by profession, and a run of the mill cheap ass from living in Southern California, I have made a point to only spend money on what matters. Taking on any mechanical challenge myself and methodically choosing gear that suits my minimalistic approach to adventure has made me want to shed some light on how I make it all work in a world full of $100k+ weekend adventure vehicles.

Much work has been (and continues to be) needed on the old Land Rover, but the adventures never stop! Follow along in the blog section to hear the rest of my story.
